Introduction:
This lesson is about the huge tsunami waves caused on 26 December 2004. This story tells some sad stories held during tsunami. The tsunami hit Thailand and other parts of India such as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the Tamil Nadu coast in India. Because of these waves more than 150,000 died. These all stories are held in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Story 1 of Part 1 :
The person named Ignesious was the manager of a cooperative society in Katchall. His wife had woken up Ignesious 6:00 am in the morning because his wife felt an earthquake. Then the family rushed out after the earthquake. When the earthquake tremors stopped, they noticed the sea rising. Ignesious lot his two children , his wife, his brother-in-law and his father-in-law.
Story 2 of Part 1:
The policeman named Sanjeev served in the Katchall island which was the part of the Nicobar islands. He had managed to save him, his wife and his baby daughter from the tsunami. But he heard the cries for help from the wife of John who was the cook of the guesthouse. Sanjeev jumped into the water to save her but unfortunately both were swept away.
Story 3 of Part 1:
This story is about a thirteen-year-old girl named Meghna. She is swept away by the waves along with her parents and others. She was floating in the sea holding onto a wooden plank and was brought to the seashore by the waves. Right through She was completely unconscious and walking on the sea shore.
Story 4 of Part 1:
This story is about a ten years old girl named Almas Javed who was the student of the Carmel Convent in Port Blair. Her father had a petrol pump. The family had gone to Nancowry island to celebrate Christmas where her mother Rahila’s was located.
Her father had noticed in the morning that the sea water had receded after the earthquake. He had understood this was a sign of great danger. He had warned everyone to move to a safe place. While helping others, a huge wave came and washed out Alma’s father and grandfather.
Her entire family had swept away slowly, while Almas climbed into a floating log and she became unconscious. When she awoke, she found herself in a hospital in Camorta.
Part 2 summary:
The story is about a young British schoolgirl named Tilly Smith who went to the beach in Phuket located in Thailand to celebrate Christmas. On December 26, 2004 her entire family were on the beach. She and her mother noticed that the sea waves were slowly rising. However her mother was not too concerned about the symptoms. Tilly could sense that something was not right.
Tilly recalled that her teacher once mentioned that tsunamis can be caused by earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides. She understood that the waves were signs of a tsunami. He informed his family and many people on the beach. Fortunately, the hotel where Tilly’s family was staying was safe and they were all saved from the disaster.

Yala National Park is located in Sri Lanka. It was home to a variety of animals and birds. About 60 visitors were swept away from the Patanangala beach into the park, while only two water buffaloes were found dead. Also, some park people observed three elephants running from Patanangala beach an hour before the tsunami hit.
In another incident, a Sri Lankan living near Galle Beach had two dogs that refused to walk on the beach. This was a warning signal to them and their master of dogs who was saved from the massive damage of the tsunami.
